- 2–3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece ginger, minced
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp oil (for cooking)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1 cup heavy cream
- In a large bowl, combine yogurt, minced garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin powder, salt, and pepper. Add chicken pieces and let marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add marinated chicken in batches and cook until golden brown on all sides (about 6-8 minutes). Transfer cooked chicken to a plate.
- In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and sauté diced onions until translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in tomato puree along with remaining spices (cumin powder and extra garam masala).
- Lower the heat and pour in heavy cream while stirring continuously. Simmer gently for about 10 minutes until thickened.
- Return the cooked chicken to the sauce and let simmer on low heat for another few minutes to meld flavors.
- Plate your aromatic Butter Chicken with fluffy rice or warm naan on the side.
